Opening of Dementia Centre of Excellence

Screen Shot 2015-09-23 at 09.51.17The Chairman of Durham County Council has opened a Dementia Centre of Excellence in East Durham.

Cllr Jan Blakey was on hand to cut the ribbon at the Robin Todd Centre in South Hetton thanks to a project funded by the East Durham Area Action Partnership.

It has helped pave the way for the introduction of a new way of working with dementia information in the area.

As well as the centre, there is the added incentive of a dementia support worker, funded by the Alzheimer’s Association.

Cllr Blakey said she was delighted to open the centre, saying: “Robin Todd, as many know, would have been my vice chairman as well as being a stalwart of County Durham politics for over 50 years.

“His death on 23 May has left a great void and local government in the county is poorer for his passing.

“His passion for his beloved South Hetton was well known and I’m sure he will be looking down upon us, proud of what has been achieved today.”
