STUDENTS will be among those raising a glass, as one of Tyneside’s most popular venues kick starts October with a special three-day festival.

From Friday 6 to Sunday 8 October, Osbornes, Osborne Road, Jesmond, is staging Ostober Fest – a celebration of craft beer, vodka and gin.

And among the brands on offer throughout the event will be Whitley Neill, Wylam, Edinburgh Gin, Anarchy and Fevertree.

The venue is owned by North East leisure and hospitality giant Malhotra Group plc and Ostober Fest follows hot on the heels of the highly successful, annual festivals held at two of its other venues; The Runhead, at Ryton and the Sandpiper, at Cullercoats.

Chris Shorter, who organises the successful beer and cider festivals, said the initiative gives the venue the opportunity to introduce students – many of whom come from outside the area – to some of the North East’s locally-produced brews and spirits.

“We have a growing number of really impressive drinks manufacturers here in the region and this is our chance to show them off a bit to our customers,” he said.

“Many of the first year students have never been to the North East before and this is a great way to show them what we’re doing here and also to give them a proper Geordie welcome to Tyneside.”
