Out in Force for Freedom Parade

FreedomParade1THE STREETS of Stockton Town Centre were lined with spectators for a special Freedom Parade by 1 Close Support Battalion Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) on Thursday 25 June.

Around 200 soldiers from REME marched down Stockton High Street and the surrounding roads to celebrate their receiving of a Freedom of the Borough scroll.

They were presented with the scroll, for the first time at a public event, by the Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees, Councillor Ian Dalgarno.

The parade was part of a series of events to mark Armed Forces Day, which saw a host of activity on Stockton High Street.

A service was held in recognition of serving and retired troops at Stockton Town Hall earlier in the day with musical backing from the Salvation Army band alongside displays from the World War Two Re-enactment Society, as well as music from the Drums Platoon of the Yorkshire Regiment.
