Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Owen Pugh Appoints Non-Executive Director

IAN_0170One of the largest civil engineering firms in the North East has strengthened its management team with the appointment of a non-executive director.

Andrew Jackson has joined The Owen Pugh Group and brings almost three decades of industry experience to the role. He is responsible for providing strategic input into the company’s corporate growth plan and advising the executive board on a range of issues, including business development opportunities and improvements to internal processes and structures.

He is also tasked with coaching and mentoring key staff members and promoting the activities of Owen Pugh.

Andrew brings to the role a wealth of experience in construction and the built environment, having spent 27 years with global engineering giant Laing O’Rourke, which acquired his previous employer John Laing Construction Ltd. During that time he led the growth of the company’s business unit in the North, building it into a £800m operation with 1,000 staff, before transforming a Canada-based start-up within the group into a $360m (£232m) business in three years.

With a unique talent for building and managing teams, he has successfully led the delivery of major healthcare PFI (private finance initiative) schemes and has provided strategic direction and guidance to businesses all over the world.

Andrew, who combines his duties at Owen Pugh with his day job as a director at construction and consultancy organisation Mace, said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Owen Pugh, which has delivered some exciting projects and is playing a major role in the regeneration of the North East. I hope to use my experience to help the firm win more work, gain access to new markets and expand further in the coming years.”

He joins a business that has enjoyed significant growth in recent times. In the last decade turnover at Owen Pugh has more than doubled to around £40million, with staff numbers rising to more than 400.

Company chairman John Dickson said: “Andrew’s experience and credentials will prove invaluable as we move into the next stage of our growth. We have always prided ourselves on attracting and retaining the best industry talent and that has been the key to our success to date.”
