Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

logoNewcastle ParkLives has now lunched its summer programme.  For the school holidays ParkLives Carnivals will run across the City which will feature a climbing wall, football inflatable, smoothie bike and much more.

Run by Coca-Cola Great Britain in partnership with Active Newcastle, ParkLives is ideal for busy parents during the school holidays and offers a wide range of ways to entertain the family for free. As well as the new sessions the summer timetable features activities that have already proven popular with Newcastle families, such as:

  • Yoga in the Park [Thursdays 11-12 at Gosforth Central Park) – outdoor yoga for families, promoting good fitness, health and state of mind, it will improve your flexibility as well as all-round strength and fitness.
  • Tai Chi [Monday 11.30-12.30 at Heaton Park and Friday 11-12 at Jesmond Dene Visitors Centre] – unwind and relax with a mind and body class, touching on techniques from Tai chi, Body Balance, Yoga and more.

The new timetable started on [Monday 18th July 2016] and will run through to [Monday 5th September 2016], with daily activities available in more than 10 parks across the city. Sessions are between an hour and two hours long, and are led by supportive and friendly trained instructors from the local area.

Cllr Kim McGuinness, Cabinet Member for Culture and Communities said: “More and more people in Newcastle are getting outside, enjoying outdoor activities in their local green spaces and really feeling the benefit to their health and lifestyle. The ParkLives programme provides a range of perfect opportunities to do this.

“It’s completely free to get involved and there’s something available for everyone from traditional sports to the chance to try something totally different. It’s great that all this is coming to our excellent parks and green spaces right across Newcastle this summer. I’d encourage everyone to get involved and enjoy this fab programme this summer”.

Liz Lowe, ParkLives lead at Coca-Cola Great Britain said: “ParkLives is offering a whole host of free activities that won’t break the bank this summer.  We’ve got everything from tennis, to weird and wonderful activities like Nordic Walking and orienteering. The best school holiday memories are made on family trips out, and with many parks taking part in Newcastle, we’re offering this right on peoples’ doorstep.”

ParkLives launched in 2014 and is part of a £20 million commitment by Coca-Cola Great Britain to invest in community-based programmes. ParkLives now runs in 45 locations including ten cities across the UK including Birmingham, Dundee, Glasgow, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Newham (London), Swansea, Southampton and Stoke-on-Trent.
