Parsons completes container conversions for prestigious Magazine London project

County Durham based Parsons Containers Ltd, has received the seal of approval from the technical director of the prestigious new events space Magazine London, after completing an order to fabricate two 20ft offices from new ‘one trip’ containers, creating a control room and security hub at the Greenwich venue.

Vibration Design and Production (VDP) the in-house production company at Magazine London, contracted Simon Jones, Technical Production Management (SJ-TPM), for the technical delivery of Magazine London’s infrastructure and equipment. Simon needed to source two secure containers to be converted into additional, semi-permanent office space and approached Sedgefield headquartered Parsons Containers in April after finding the website. The containers were to be located in the venue’s compound to manage security, in the event that the main building had to be evacuated.

Simon comments: “Magazine London was SJ-TPM’s first large venue project, so it was essential that everything was completed on time, within budget and to a high standard.  It was therefore paramount that we chose to work with suppliers who would reflect our own excellent service levels.

“After contacting Parsons for a quotation, it was clear that the team there was able to deliver exactly what was needed within the timescales.  They were professional in their approach, their drawings and samples were of a high quality, and crucially, they were competitively priced.”

Parsons’ brief was to fabricate the containers with secure windows and personnel door access and fit them out with internal electrics including lighting and double sockets. They also needed to be internally lined with melamine over 50mm rockwool insulation and painted black in the exact shade specified by the venue.  The two containers were to be delivered to the venue within a strict three-week deadline and it was vital that this was well executed as the containers needed to be placed levelly in a precise location.

Stephen Collins, Container Sales Manager at Parsons Containers, comments: “We were delighted to be approached by Simon with the possibility of providing him with two containers for this high-profile project.  The conversion of the containers itself was fairly straightforward, but it was imperative that we delivered them on time to the client’s specific requirements.  We enlisted our long-standing haulage partner Richard Tinsley Ltd. to transport the containers to the venue as this was a really important part of the brief.”

Simon adds: “I would certainly contact Parsons with future work.  They provided exactly what was required, as per their drawings and within the timescales.  The fact that they used a reliable delivery partner was a significant factor too.”

Owned and managed by Venue Lab, Magazine London is a major new 24,179 sq m event space located in North Greenwich close to the O2. The venue combines indoor and outdoor space suitable for concerts, conferences, exhibitions, product launches, award ceremonies, dinners and more.
