Pelton care home’s special Valentine’s meal for residents

CARE home staff in Chester-le-Street went the extra mile for Valentine’s Day by arranging a romantic meal for resident couples.

Three couples at Pelton Grange Care Home, on Front Street, marked the day with a memorable lunch.

They enjoyed three-courses accompanied by romantic music, candles, balloons, roses, and chocolates.

Staff wanted to make the day special for those who would otherwise find it difficult to enjoy a romantic meal with their partners.

They also took photos of each couple, which will be framed and given as gifts as a memento for the day.

Lindsay Sale-Thorn, activities coordinator at Pelton Grange Care Home, said: “Valentine’s Day is very special and we wanted to give our couples a lovely experience.

“The smiles on everyone’s faces as they came into the dining room were wonderful to see.”

Margaret Cowpathwaite, who visits the home for day care, and husband Steve were among those to enjoy the Valentine’s Day lunch.

She said: “What a wonderful surprise it was to go into the dining room and see it so beautifully decorated.

“The food was delicious and the ambience so romantic.”

Steve added: “It was totally unexpected. I can’t believe the home went to so much trouble.”

Resident Dennis Fullerton and his wife Margaret were also among the Valentine’s Day guests.

Margaret said: “You’ve thought of everything. I’ve never had the chance to have a romantic meal with Dennis before so this has been an absolute treat.

“It was a delicious meal but I’m so glad I don’t have to do the dishes.”
