Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

South Tyneside Council largeAn opportunity for people to see a hard-hitting drama about child sexual exploitation is on offer in South Tyneside next week.

The Local Safeguarding Children Board has commissioned drama company Alter Ego to give a number of performances of Chelsea’s Choice to secondary school pupils, as well as parents, carers and those who work with young people.

Based on a true story, Chelsea’s Choice has proven to be highly effective in raising awareness of healthy relationships, risky behaviour, the grooming process, safe internet use and child sexual exploitation as well as signposting young people to organisations that can help.

Parents and carers are invited to a production on Tuesday, 12 July at 6.15pm in the main hall at Jarrow Community Centre.  The innovative production, which will be followed by a Question and Answer session, is free and will last for one hour.

A performance will also be held for multi-agency professionals on Friday, 15 July at 1.30pm in the main hall at Jarrow Community Centre.

Booking for both events is essential and can be done by contacting Lynn Hodson on (0191) 456 0138.

Councillor Joan Atkinson, Lead Member for Children, Young People and Families, said: “We appreciate that child sexual exploitation is a sensitive subject and it is important that we tackle it in the right way.

“By raising awareness of the issue we can give our young people the knowledge they need to be able to keep themselves safe.”
