Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Poetry, literature and comedy come together at Gala

Screen Shot 2015-10-08 at 15.46.06A performance by poet Pam Ayres and a hilarious high-speed journey through the life of Charles Dickens promise to keep audiences at Gala Theatre amused this coming week.

Four decades after she first appeared on Opportunity Knocks, Pam Ayres is still entertaining audiences with her perfect timing and eye for detail.

Her new show, Forty Years On, which stops off at Gala this Saturday (10 October), follows the publication of her latest volume of verse, You Made Me Laugh Again.

A regular contributor to BBC Radio 4’s Just A Minute, she also had her own show, Ayres on the Air, which ran for six series.

On Tuesday, 13 October, audiences can take a comic trip through the works of a literary legend when Dickens Abridged arrives at Gala.

Devised by Adam Long, founding member of The Reduced Shakespeare Company and co-creator of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), this fast-paced musical comedy has received rave reviews.

Highlights include Oliver Twist, Great Expectations (complete with flaming bride), Bleak House and lots of other Dickens classics.

A singing and dancing love letter to the life and works of a great man, this is the life of Charles Dickens as you’ve never seen it before.
