Potterhouse Lane recycling centre to close for repairs

203A County Durham recycling centre will close temporarily for essential repairs and maintenance later this month.

Potterhouse Lane Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC), in Pity Me, Durham, will close for two weeks between Monday 23 November and Friday 4 December.

Subject to weather conditions and the works being completed, the site will return to normal opening hours, between 9am and 3.30pm, on Saturday 5 December.

During the temporary closure, Durham County Council is providing alternative arrangements for residents at Hett Hills HWRC, on the B6313 between Chester-le-Street and Craghead.

The Hett Hills site, which is nearest to Potterhouse Lane, is normally only open on weekends but during the closure of Potterhouse Lane it will remain open seven days a week between 9am and 3.30pm.

Other HWRCs which residents can use instead of Potterhouse Lane are:

Coxhoe – open Monday to Thursday, 10am until 4pm, weekends and bank holidays, 9am until 3.30pm;

Tudhoe – open every day, 9am until 3.30pm;

Annfield Plain – open every day, 9am until 3.30pm.

Residents taking items in a van, trailer, pick-up or minibus are reminded to apply for a free permit before visiting any HWRC. To apply visit www.durham.gov.uk/hwrc or call 03000 261 000.

People can also arrange for large bulky items to be collected by the council. Charges do apply to this service and further details can be found at www.durham.gov.uk/bulkywaste
