York Central Labour and Co-operative Parliamentary Candidate, Rachael Maskell, has marked the start of construction at Bishophill, McCarthy and Stone’s new Retirement Living scheme in York.

She joined the Site Manager, Tony Barrowclough, along with McCarthy and Stone Area Sales Manager, Cate Palmer, and Senior Marketing Executive, Laura Wigglesworth; to explore the development plans and perform a groundbreaking ceremony to officially recognise that construction has started there.

The apartments in Bishophill have already been attracting a high level of interest in the area, from people interested in downsizing to a lower maintenance property, and those who aspire to retire to York.

Ms Maskell commented: “It was a pleasure to visit the site of McCarthy and Stone’s planned new development in York, and to mark the start of construction there. Developments like this are a great asset to the city, as they provide the perfect solution for people who are looking to enjoy an independent and active lifestyle in retirement, but who might also benefit from support at hand if they should ever need it, and a great sense of community. The end result is a more fluid housing chain in and around York, where it frees up housing stock for families and first time buyers also wanting to move, but who enjoy and want to stay in the local area.”

Liz Green, Regional Sales and Marketing Director McCarthy and Stone North East, added: “We are delighted that Rachael Maskell was able to take the time to visit our Bishophill site, and take a look at the plans for some of the fantastic apartments that will be on offer here.

“McCarthy and Stone is committed to designing flexible homes which allow people to make the most of their retirement years, and live as independently as possible with the benefit of having a range of amenities right on their doorstep.”

Once complete, the Bishophill development will compromise of 34 one and two bedroom retirement apartments for the over 60s, which will offer all the benefits of home ownership, but without the maintenance worries as all the external and communal areas are taken care of by McCarthy and Stone’s expert team.  Features will include a stunning homeowners’ lounge, ideal for socialising with friends, beautifully landscaped gardens in which to relax, plus a stunning panoramic rooftop terrace which enjoys views over the whole city. Should homeowners have friends or relatives to visit, a comfortable guest suite can be provided so they too can enjoy a restful stay.

Located within the city walls, the location has plenty to offer with a wide range of amenities within a five minute walk, whilst enjoying stunning views of York.
