Red House youngsters get the green message thanks to J&B Recycling

PUPILS from a Teesside school were given some tips on how to dispose of their waste responsibly during a trip to one of the region’s biggest recycling firms.

Almost 40 youngsters from Red House School, in Norton near Stockton, visited J&B Recycling’s base in Hartlepool as part of a long-running project centred around Good Citizenship.

The visitors were split into two groups from Year 6 and given a tour where they were shown how the waste is brought into the site then sorted into different sections before being sent out for recycling.

Tiffany White, Key Stage 2 co-ordinator at Red House School, said: “The pupils have been learning about how to be a Good Citizen, and obviously there is a very important message about recycling and how to be responsible when it comes to throwing away your rubbish.

“The children were shown how the site operates and all of the areas where recycling is sorted into piles for plastics, paper and glass. It was all very interesting and very informative.

“They then had a quiz when they got back to their class, and hopefully they went home and passed on what they learned to their family and friends.

“They’ve also been very responsible since the visit and have a greater awareness of what happens to their rubbish once it goes into the bin.

“We are very grateful to J&B Recycling for welcoming us, it was a good experience for everyone who visited.”

Jane Hammond, Sales & Customer Services Executive at J&B Recycling, added: “It is always nice to welcome schools into our facility to show them exactly what happens to their waste.

“It is important to spread the message about how important recycling is, and we hope the children learned a lot from their visit and go on to tell their family and friends about it.

“The children from Red House were a credit to their school, and they asked some very interesting questions at the end of their visit.”
