…but if you want to get your hands on this T-shirt, you really will have to be there on Sunday, June 5.

There’s a new name for the popular 5k Riverside Run, and the 2016 shirt is appropriately picked out in promotion-winning Boro’s red and white.

The Ali Brownlee Cleveland Centre 5k Riverside Run was officially launched last month in tribute to BBC Tees’ Voice of the Boro who died in February after a short battle with cancer.

Organisers are expecting a bumper turn-out for both the 5k and CCG 2k Fun Run, with runners, walkers and charity fund-raisers expected to snap up all 2,000 places in this year’s event well ahead of race day.

Entrants will once again pound the popular route from the Riverside Stadium past some of the town’s most striking landmarks including Temenos and the Transporter Bridge, before a memorable finish beside the hallowed turf inside the stadium.

Chris Smith, Director of Business Development of 2016 Riverside Run shirt sponsors Thirteen, said: “Ali loved events like the Riverside Run, so it’s great to have it named in his honour and a T-shirt that reflects his passion for the Boro.

“As the largest housing provider in the Tees Valley, we’re delighted to be supporting this year’s 5k, which really brings people in the town and wider community together and promotes health and wellbeing.

“I’m sure the 2016 shirts will be treasured by runners, including our own team of participants, as a memento of a very special event.”

Councillor Lewis Young, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: “Ali was a huge figure in Middlesbrough and one who is greatly missed, and renaming the race in his honour has struck a chord with many people.

“He as a tireless supporter of our Runmiddlesbrough events, and I’d like to think he would have approved of a shirt in his beloved Boro colours.”For full details and entry information on the Ali Brownlee Cleveland Centre
