Resurfacing and street lighting work

Road and street lighting works are to take place in County Durham in the coming weeks.

Durham County Council is to carry out resurfacing and replace street lights at Chester-le-Street and Durham City from Monday 9 October.

The work at Chester-le-Street will see resurfacing take place on Second Avenue from Monday until Wednesday 11 October.

The road will be closed between its junctions with Waldridge Road and Bullion Lane, between 7am and 7pm each day while the work is carried out.

A diversion will be in place via Waldridge Road, South Approach and Bullion Lane, with signs to inform motorists.

Work to replace ageing streetlights on Redhills Lane in Durham City takes place from Monday until Sunday 29 October.

The road will be closed between its junctions with Grays Terrace and the access to the Miners’ Hall from 9.30am to 3.30pm daily, while the work is carried out.

A diversion will be in place via Sutton Street, North Road, the A691 and A167, with signs to inform motorists.

The work will also involve the replacement of underground cables.

John Reed, the council’s head of technical services, said: “These maintenance works are essential to maintain the condition of the highway network and keep it safe.

“We appreciate there will be some disruption for motorists but we have planned the works to keep this to a minimum.

“We do very much appreciate the patience and understanding shown by motorists for all the work we do.”
