The final phase of the work will take place on Sunday, 13 August, when a short section of Front Street to the junction with Station Road will be closed. There will be a diversion along Front Street and the A691.

  • The B6309 Durham Road, in Leadgate, will be closed overnight between 7pm and 6am from Monday, 24 July to Sunday, 30 July to allow for resurfacing of the A692/A691 roundabout.

Traffic will be diverted from the south end of the closure, north westerly via the A692 and then easterly on the C10a Durham Road/Front Street and north easterly via the A692 then westerly on the C10a St Ives Road.

  • The A68 at Fir Tree will also be closed between 8am and 6pm from Thursday, 31 August to Monday, 4 September.

There will be a diversion via the A68 to West Auckland, the A689 to Crook and the A68 Harperley roundabout.

John Reed, Durham County Council’s head of technical services, said: “We appreciate that these works, which are part of our ongoing programme to maintain the county’s road network, may cause some disruption for motorists.

“We have planned schemes to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum, with overnight working in some areas, but would like to thank motorists in advance for their patience.”
