Road improvement works set to begin on Cargo Fleet Lane

ROAD improvement works to ease traffic at a busy Middlesbrough junction are due to get underway shortly.

The carriageway of A171 Cargo Fleet Lane is being widened at its junction with Cranmore Road, creating a separate lane for vehicles turning right into Cranmore Road.

The changes will permit vehicles travelling south on Cargo Fleet Lane towards Ormesby to do so unimpeded and will allow the junction to work more efficiently, particularly during the evening peak period, reducing the congestion and delays that currently occur.

Work will begin on Monday, February 13, with completion expected by the end of March.

Cllr Charlie Rooney, Middlesbrough’s Deputy Mayor and Executive Member for Regeneration, said: “Once complete, these works will have a significant positive impact on those who live in east Middlesbrough and those who use Cargo Fleet Lane on a regular basis.

“The improvement scheme at Cranmore Road follows on from the major traffic signal upgrade introduced at the junction of Cargo Fleet Lane and Longlands Road last year, and will help to smooth the flow of traffic on this busy route.

“Every effort will be made to reduce the impact of the works to a minimum. However, given the nature of the improvements and the high traffic volumes, it is inevitable there will be some disruption while they are underway, so we would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.”
