Terry Laybourne and Nick PughCreative communications company The Roundhouse is behind the branding of Tyneside’s newest asian kitchen KO SAI.

Located in the newly redesigned Fenwick Food Hall, KO SAI offers some of the most popular street themed dishes taking inspiration from South East Asia – noodle soup, stir-fry and curries, steamed buns and fresh Thai and Vietnamese style salads.

The Roundhouse worked closely with partner and restaurateur Terry Laybourne to create both name and identity. They consulted on all visual aspects of the restaurant from signs and interiors to menus, posters and a special KO SAI beer brewed locally for the restaurant.

“This was a very exciting opportunity for us, not only to extend a long relationship with the 21 Hospitality Group but also to create something fresh set in the context of a radically redesigned Fenwick Food Hall” said Nick Pugh, creative director at the Roundhouse.

“Our task was to deliver a brand that stood out and was easily recognisable. We are delighted with the result and are currently working on initiatives to build on the KO SAI experience”

The Roundhouse, celebrating 21 years this year, specialises in branding, digital and film. Among its longstanding clients are the Universities of Newcastle, Liverpool and Lancaster, and more recently Heriot-Watt. Not only strong in the education sector they work for NVM, The Guinness Partnership, PWC Kitchens, Eaga Trust, North and NRG.

The company which has grown to 23 strong and is expecting a 20% growth in business this year sees the immediate future as a very exciting stage in its development. Nick Pugh adds “We have grown a versatile team of designers, consultants, developers, technicians, writers and managers who are all committed to pushing the company forward. At the moment we are enjoying some very interesting work”
