Rrcycle, Refashion and Repurpose Old Clothes with New Upcycling Course

Screen Shot 2015-04-01 at 14.36.31TIRED and outdated clothes that never see the light of day are being given a new lease of life thanks to the popular Upcycling sewing course hosted by Stockton Council’s Learning and Skills service.

Simple and effective alterations, such as taking up a hem or shortening sleeves, can transform old clothes into desirable garments once more.

Bring along a garment of choice, along with a basic sewing kit of thread, needles, pins and scissors, and our experienced tutors will guide learners, whether beginners or advanced, on how to make the most of their old outfits using electric sewing machines.

Heather Willis from Stockton, a previous learner on an Upcycling course, said: “The concept of ‘make do and mend’ is back on trend right now so it is quite exciting to take something that you no longer wear and make it feel fresh and fashionable again.

“The Upcycling course has made me look at clothing in a new light and I would encourage anyone with an interest in fashion to give it a go!”

The five week Upcycling course starts on Thursday 16 April, from 7pm to 9pm, at Billingham Community Centre and costs £27.

To enrol, visit www.stockton.gov.uk and click through to Adult Education or call 01642 527904.

Alternatively, learners can call into Billingham Community Centre, The Causeway, TS23 2DA for more information.
