North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Run, jog or swim your way to Sport Relief success

Redcar_and_Cleveland_Borough_CouncilRUNNERS and swimmers of all abilities are invited to make their way to Redcar and Cleveland and raise money for Sport Relief by clocking up the miles.

The biggest event is the Sport Relief Mile taking place on Sunday, March 20, with Kirkleatham Woods playing host to runners looking to complete one mile, three miles or even six miles while raising money for the charity.

For anyone looking to take part, the entry fee is £7 for adults, £3 for children and £17 for a family of two adults and two children. The event starts at 10.00am and a decent pair of running shoes is advised.

If running isn’t to everyone’s taste, people looking to do their bit in other ways can take to the water and compete in the Sport Relief Swimathon at swimming pools across the borough. Keen swimmers can hit the pool at any time between Friday, March 18, and Sunday, March 20.

Taking part individually, or as part of team of two-five people, swimmers can tackle distances of 1.5K, 2.5K or 5K and earn their water wings.

Councillor Carl Quartermain, Cabinet Member for Jobs, Skills and Leisure, said: “These are two great ways to raise money for Sport Relief, a charity assisting with very worth projects across our area. I would encourage as many runners or swimmers as possible to sign up and do their bit for the cause!”
