A LEADING Tyneside pub which is becoming the go-to place for fine food is bringing back one of its popular dining events for shellfish fans.

The Merchants Tavern at St Peter’s Wharf, Newcastle, is hosting a Grand Fruits of the Sea Roasted Shellfish Platter night on Friday, November 4 2016.

The event is set to include a selection of the finest seafood caught between the Isle of Skye and the North East coast, featuring fish from leading suppliers Taylors Seafood, Lindisfarne Oysters and Isle of Skye Fisheries.

Guests will be able to enjoy a delicious platter to share between two which will include Amble lobster, Lindisfarne oysters, Shields crab, clams, mussels, langoustines in garlic, lemon and parsley and hand dived scallops with saffron aioli.

The event follows a successful seafood night at The Merchants Tavern in September, which sold out.

Head Chef Ronald Robson is looking forward to this second evening, and hopes it will raise awareness of the quality of the pub’s suppliers as well as showcase some of its menu.

“At the Merchants Tavern we are passionate about fine food which is locally sourced where possible and we run evenings like this to show our customers a little bit of what we do.

“With sea food, it’s very important to source your fish from suppliers who are equally as passionate about where it comes from, how it is caught and the impact this has on the environment.

“We will only work with the best suppliers, and then it’s up to us to showcase their food in the best way possible. Nights like this seafood event are designed to give customers an idea of what we serve, and perhaps try something they wouldn’t normally choose.”

Tickets to the Grand Fruits of the Sea Roasted Shellfish Platter night are £59 including a bottle of Prosecco for two and tables must be reserved in advance.
