Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Search on for Durham’s next golf superstars

Screen Shot 2016-07-05 at 15.57.34Ramside Hall Hotel and Golf Club has launched a search to identify the North East’s next generation of golfing superstars.

The Durham golf resort is offering four scholarships to junior golfers, aged ten to 16, including a years’ free membership, use of its two championship courses, golf academy & driving range plus tuition with its team of three expert coaches.

Helen Roseberry, director of golf, said: “We are on the lookout for the next Graeme Storm, Jodi Ewart or Chris Paisley, and are keen to hear from junior golfers who want to develop their game and character at one of the North East’s finest golf facilities.”

The scholarships are offered annually and are called the Michael Adamson Junior Golf Scholarships, in honour of Ramside’s late company chairman Michael Adamson M.B.E.

Mr. Adamson oversaw the construction of the Prince Bishops’ Course at Ramside which opened 20 years ago in 1996. His vision to develop a 36-hole golf resort was realised in 2014 when The Cathedral Course opened on the former Hilltop Farm between Belmont and Pittington.

The scholarships are provided to two boys and two girls each year and seeks to identify young people with outstanding personal character and dedication to golf.

There is no handicap limit for applications and golfers of all abilities are encouraged to apply.

“You don’t have to be the finished article to apply for this golf scholarship. Most of all we’re looking for young people with potential, room to grow and who genuinely love being out on the golf course,” added Helen.

The scholarship scheme was established in 2015 and the inaugural Michael Adamson Junior Golf Scholars were:

Lewis Reay (Ramside Hall Hotel and Golf Club), Duran Gun (George Washington Golf and Country Club), Gabrielle Dickinson (Houghton-Le-Spring Golf Club) and Kitana Hollins (Ramside Hall Hotel and Golf Club).

Successful applicants will be invited to a golf skills testing day and an interview, from which the four scholars will be chosen for 2016-17.
