Small Allotment Plots Up for Grabs at Town Farm

Screen Shot 2016-03-07 at 08.56.14GARDENERS and growers are being invited to apply for plots at a popular Middlesbrough allotment site.

The Town Farm Community Allotment is a small growing site on land which forms part of the council allotment site on Cargo Fleet Lane.

Established over seven years ago and managed by its own Association of about 15 members, Town Farm offers small, manageable and reasonably priced vegetable growing plots to those who don’t want to take on a full-sized council plot.

Association membership also gives access to other site facilities including secure storage, a large polytunnel, a shared tool stock and even a toilet – something of a luxury on an allotment site.

The site also plays a part in the local community by getting involved in horticultural events and hosting educational visits from local schools.

It was first established in partnership with Middlesbrough Council with funding from a Lottery grant in 2009 and has since become an independent entity directed by our own members.

Interested parties are currently being sought to take over a small number of vacant plants, and are welcome to visit the site to find out more.

Applicants should be willing to develop and improve their plot and play a part in helping to manage and maintain the Association site, as well as helping out with community activities.
