Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Learn more about the Stockton & Darlington Railway and Shildon’s history as a railway town in a special themed access session and walking tour from Locomotion: The National Railway Museum at Shildon, developed for this year’s nationwide Heritage Open Days project.

On Saturday September 9 and Sunday September 10, 2017, Locomotion: The National Railway Museum at Shildon will link with volunteers from the Friends of the NRM (North East Branch) and the Brusselton Incline Group to offer special access to the Soho Shed, the oldest industrial building still standing in Shildon, and then a guided walking tour to Brusselton.

The Soho Shed will be open from 10am to 2pm each day, and volunteers from the Friends of the NRM (North East Branch) will be on hand to tell visitors more about Shildon’s railway past.

Then at 11am each day, volunteers from the Brusselton Incline Group will lead a guided walk from the Soho Shed, through the old Works site, up the Brusselton Incline to the recently restored Accommodation Bridge, and then return.

The walk is approximately three miles long, and should take a maximum of two hours to complete. Please note that each walk will be limited to 30 people per group, with spaces allocated on a first come, first served basis.

The Soho Shed is located at the western end of the site at Locomotion: The National Railway Museum at Shildon – please use postcode DL4 1PQ. For more information, please call the Museum team on 01388 777999.
