Something Fishy in Darlington…

Screen Shot 2015-06-24 at 09.23.38SOMETHING fishy will be happening in Darlington this month when a much loved family movie comes to town.

As part of its Darlington by the Sea schedule of summertime events, Distinct Darlington is installing a giant silver screen in the town’s Market Square on Friday 24 and 31 July.

And among the trio of films shown on both days, will be Disney favourite, Finding Nemo, which will be screened at 3.30pm each day.

This animated underwater adventure follows the momentous journey of a clownfish named Marlin and his son, Nemo, who become separated in the Great Barrier Reef when Nemo is unexpectedly taken from his ocean home and dumped in a fish tank in a dentist’s office.

With the help of fellow fish Dory, Marlin embarks on a dangerous trek to rescue his son, who also hatches a few daring plans of his own to return safely home.

Underwater adventures can also be found earlier each day, with the escapades of sea-dwelling SpongeBob SquarePants in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, at 1.30pm.

While at 11am, sci-fi fans can enjoy screenings of Academy Award winning Big Hero 6, about high tech inflatable robots.

“All three are great family films,” said Alex Hirst, manager of Distinct Darlington, which was formed to promote businesses in the town centre, “and visitors to the town centre on each day will be able to watch them outdoors on the big screen entirely free of charge.

While some deckchairs will be available, film fans are advised to bring their own portable chairs, rugs and cushions as seating is limited.

Along with the film screenings, visitors to the town centre over the two week event will be able to enjoy a variety of activities and entertainment, including Punch and Judy shows, seaside-themed sideshows, competitions and pirate treasure hunts.
