Sophie Moorby, from Ponteland, has been appointed as manager of the firm’s Washington depot. She is responsible for 160 employees and 60 buses.

Sophie joined Go North East just 12 months ago as a trainee on their graduate programme and has impressed bosses with her can-do attitude and new ideas.

Sophie is only the second female to be appointed as a depot manager at the firm which is the north east’s third largest employer, with a workforce of 2,100.

She said: “I am really excited about my appointment. The help and support I have received from senior management as well as managers at the other depots has enabled me to feel confident in my new role. With the continued support of everyone I hope to have a positive influence on the performance going forward.”

Operations director at Go North East, David Curry said: “Sophie is the very reason we have a graduate programme – she is a shining example of how we take aspiring young people and develop them to become capable, enthusiastic managers with the potential to go all the way to board level.”

Go North East has a fleet of 680 buses and is the north east’s third largest employer with 2,100 staff. The company runs services in Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, Durham and Teesside.
