Five time Paralympian and captain of Team GB Paralympics Olympic Team at London 2012 – Stephen Miller (pictured) visited the club at Hambleton Leisure Centre in Northallerton to motivate and share his struggles, achievements and experience of proudly representing Great Britain.

“Sportivate is a fantastic way of getting young people into sport and that is something I am really passionate about,” he said.

“I believe that as a Sport England Sporting Champion, I can inspire everyone in attendance to raise their aspirations of what they can achieve and motivate them to be the very best version for themselves that they can be.”

The club now has the backing of Hambleton District Council who has obtained grants from Boccia England to help with facility hire, coaching costs and equipment and will allow the club to continue until March 2016.  Boccia England has also donated two sets of 13 competitive Boccia Balls worth £350.

Hambleton Boccia Club which has 17 registered participants, who all attend sessions on a regular basis, has been invited to enter a team into the Yorkshire Regional Boccia League, where the club will have the opportunity to compete against other Boccia teams from around the region.

If successful in the league, the team will be invited to compete at the annual Boccia cup, to compete against teams from the Southern and Northern leagues, with all teams competing to be named the best regional team for that year.

There are coaching and volunteering opportunities available at the club who are always happy to gain extra support for the sessions and would welcome anyone with an interest to get involved with the activities.
