Stagecoach North East Managing Director Moves On

Phil MedlicottStagecoach announced yesterday (16 June 2016) that Phil Medlicott, Managing Director of Stagecoach North East, has decided to leave the company after a total of 16 years with the business.

Phil (53), who took up his current position in June 2012 following the retirement of John Conroy, joined Stagecoach in 2000 as Operations Director for Stagecoach South and has since held a number of management roles across England.

Over the past four years, he has been responsible for one of Stagecoach’s biggest regional bus companies with some of the highest levels of passenger satisfaction in the country.

Stagecoach North East operates local bus services in Newcastle, South Shields, Sunderland, Hartlepool and Teesside. The company, which has more than 1,400 employees, runs around 470 buses and carries 63 million passengers a year.

Phil began his career in the bus industry in 1983, becoming a driver and then holding a series of management posts at bus companies in Birkenhead, Runcorn and London.

He has also been Managing Director, Stagecoach Warwickshire, as well as Managing Director of Stagecoach South East.

Robert Montgomery, Managing Director of Stagecoach UK Bus, said: “Phil has made a significant contribution to the development of a number of our regional bus services across England.

“He has made a particularly strong impact in the North East where our package of low fares, good customer service and significant investment in new buses and new smart ticketing technology has helped deliver one of the highest levels of bus use in Britain. I would like to wish Phil well in the next stage of his career.”

Phil Medlicott said: “I have been fortunate to work with some very talented and committed people in my time at Stagecoach and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved. I wish my colleagues in the North East, and across the UK, the best for the future as I look forward to new challenges.” 

Stagecoach has already started a recruitment process for a new Managing Director of the North East regional company. In the interim, the business will be managed by Clare Kavanagh, Strategy Director, Stagecoach UK Bus.
