Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Stars of Christmas show lead school storytelling session

Nursery and school children got into the Christmas spirit last week thanks to a visit from two very special guests.

Pupils from St Michael’s RC Primary School in Esh and Busy Bears Children’s Day Nursery in Bearpark were visited by Mrs Claus and her helper Widget who are starring in this year’s under 5s show at the Gala Theatre.

The pair led storytelling sessions with the children before getting involved with some festive arts and crafts.

Mrs Claus’ Kitchen begins on Monday, 4 December and follows Mrs Claus – played by North East actress Samantha Phyllis Morris – and her kitchen helper, Widget, played by Robert Nicholson, as they get ready for Christmas. But when Santa’s sleigh breaks down, the solution comes from an unexpected place!

The play, which includes original music and puppetry, is being directed by Kate Sorahan Turner, Gala’s theatre education officer who throughout the year is responsible for running the Gala Theatre Stage School.

“It was great to visit local children to spread a bit of Christmas cheer and they certainly seemed to enjoy their time with Mrs Claus and Widget,” she said.

“Festive shows at Gala for young families have always been popular and this year is proving no exception, with tickets already selling extremely quickly.”

The show runs from Monday, 4 to Saturday, 30 December at various times. Tickets cost from £6.50 to £7.50 and £24 to £28 for a family ticket, with best availability now on performances between Thursday, 28 to Saturday 30 December.
