Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Start home composting at a bargain price

Residents in York and North Yorkshire are being offered the chance to start composting at a fantastic price.

City of York Council and North Yorkshire County Council have teamed up with getcomposting.com to provide an exclusive offer on home compost bins.

Compost bins are now just £8 and £10 and with the “buy one get one half price” offer on these already discounted compost bins they can be bought for as little as £6 each (plus £5.99 delivery).

County Councillor Andrew Lee, Executive Member for Waste Management, said: “If you have been thinking about buying one, now is the time and it’s even better if you have a friend, neighbour or relative to share this deal with.

“You may be surprised at how much of your waste can be composted at home. Fruit and vegetable peelings, crushed eggshells, tea bags, coffee grounds, paper, card and garden waste are all compostable. More than 60 per cent of the contents of the average rubbish bin is biodegradable and over 30 per cent can be turned into fantastic peat-free compost. Additionally, home composting is a cheaper alternative to the chargeable garden waste collections and has the added benefit of producing something for free.”

The North Yorkshire Rotters volunteers will be attending events over to provide information and advice on home composting, how to get started and how to make the most of compost bins:
