VISITORS to Stockton Town Centre can take a glimpse at what entertainment at the Globe would have been like decades ago.
A display is now open in the Rediscover Stockton visitor information centre on Stockton High Street displaying several of the intriguing items from the art-deco building’s past discovered during the early stages of its restoration.
Among them are make-up, tickets, programmes, cigarettes, matches and even several seats which would have been in use during the Globe’s time as a bingo hall.
Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, Councillor Norma Wilburn, said: “The exhibition really is worth a look. Each item helps to tell the story of the Globe at a particular point in time. It is fascinating to take a look at the ephemera as it paints a wonderful picture of the people who had a really good time at the Globe and that is what we are going to bring back for today’s and future generations.
“We are also really keen to update the exhibition over time so would be really interested to see any old photos of the Globe and hear more about the experiences people had there in the past.”
The exhibition is free and open between 9.30am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday.

The restoration of the Globe is being funded by Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and a £4.5m National Lottery grant through the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF)’s Heritage Enterprise scheme.
