Screen Shot 2016-04-01 at 12.47.18A North East accountancy firm has elevated two members of staff to partner status, in a move set to secure a bright future for the company.

Stockton-based Anderson Barrowcliff has appointed associates James Dale and Helen Wilson to the role, hot on the heels of the announcement that former apprentice Andrew Dewing was made partner.

Helen, who recently had her first child, joined the firm in 2004 after being awarded a first class honours degree in mathematics and became a fully qualified accountant in 2007.

After starting in the business services department, Helen moved to the audit department and was soon after made associate in 2010. Her duties involve dealing with a wide range of clients including the education sector and UK subsidiaries of EU companies.

On the promotion, Helen said: “I think the secret to success in this industry is getting to know your clients and providing excellent service. I have been lucky, because many of my clients have been with us for many years, so I have been able to develop strong relationships with them as well as a great knowledge of their business and team.

“Anderson Barrowcliff is a firm that always strives to give our clients the very best advice and representation. I am delighted to have been part of the team for the last 12 years and look forward to developing the firm even more in my new role as partner as we plan for a long future.”

Like Helen, James has been an associate at Anderson Barrowcliff since 2010. He has a degree in Consumer Law and was also awarded a first class honours degree in Applied Accountancy, which contributed to him winning the New Accountant of the Year award at the North East Accountancy Awards in 2009.

James works on corporate finance projects such as structuring finance deals, detailed cash flow modelling, preparing companies for sale, grant finance and due diligence.

On his promotion, James said: “It feels great to become partner in an award winning firm that has real integrity, drive, and a genuine presence in the communities in which we work, which is really important to me. The management team at Anderson Barrowcliff has always given me the support I needed throughout my career, and now I hope to pass that on to the next generation of young accountants and associates.”

Anderson Barrowcliff’s managing partner, Nick Upton, said: “I was pleased that a significant expansion in the practice led to the need for the three extra partners in the last year and I know that each of them will bring new skills and ideas to growing firm.

“In a challenging environment for many businesses in the region, we have seen an increased demand for quality services and advice. In particular, we have been providing new and existing clients with far more advice on accounting and payroll outsourcing, and raising loan and grant finance, in addition to our traditional accounting, auditing and taxation services.”

The promotion brings the total number of partners at the firm, which can trace its roots back over 100 years, to eight.

Anderson Barrowcliff is proud of its reputation as being a quality training firm and continues to offer employment opportunities to appropriate candidates regardless of educational background. The firm currently takes on two apprentices and one graduate trainee every year.
