The RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch takes place from the 28 th to 30 th January – when keen bird watchers are asked to look out for winged visitors to their gardens.

Hill Care operated care homes across Teesside are participating in the event, with local schools invited to help residents prepare bird feeders to attract local wildlife.

Mandale House Care Home, on Acklam Road, Thornaby, is one of the homes participating.

Residents were visited by Year 4 pupils from Mandale Mill Primary School, also in Thornaby, to help them construct fat balls to hang outside.

Christine Reason, home manager at Mandale House Care Home, said: “The residents are really looking forward to participating in the Big Garden Bird Watch so we were delighted when Mandale Mill Primary School offered to help us create the bird feeders.

“They will make a huge difference to the number of birds we see visiting our garden over the weekend, which means our keen bird watches can collect useful notes on the local wildlife for the RSPB.

“The residents also thoroughly enjoyed the company of the pupils while making the feeders, so our thanks go to them for visiting.”

Harewood Primary School will also visit the home to create more feeders for residents to use to attract birds to the care home garden over the Big Garden Bird Watch weekend.
