STONE specialists have cemented their reputation after scooping a prestigious accolade for their work.

Richmond builders Staley Stonework were presented with the Master Builder Award, taking the prize for best Small Renovation in the Federation of Master Builders’ Yorkshire & Trent region.

Now in its 13th year, the Master Builder Awards is a flagship for high-quality building work.  The awards programme is unique in that any project entered by the builder must be backed up by the customer – giving home owners the opportunity to support those building companies that have delivered exceptional results.

Staley Stonework will now compete in the national finals for a chance to win the UK category title. The ceremony will be held at the Intercontinental Park Lane Hotel in London on September 15 hosted by TV presenter and building enthusiast Nick Knowles.

Headed by Jonny Staley, Staley Stonework is well known for its renovation work. In this case the former council chamber at Swale House in Richmond, was transformed into a spectacular two-bedroom open plan apartment, complete with mezzanine level. The Staley team won high praise for sympathetically balancing the demands of working with listed buildings with the requirements of a modern home.

FMB North Director Steve Laurence said: “For the building industry this is an opportunity to celebrate all that is good about small local builders and their importance to the UK economy.

“Staley Stonework should feel justly proud of this achievement in winning and we wish them every success in the national competition.”

MD Jonny Staley said: “This project was very special as we strived to address the complexities of working with a listed building to create a light, spacious and unique home that would combine the original features of the property with a stunning contemporary finish.”

In the national finals Staley Stonework stands to win the overall Master Builder Awards title, selected from all category winners, and a brand new Vauxhall Light Commercial Vehicle worth up to £20,000, while the clients will also receive a cheque for £1,000.
