Screen Shot 2015-09-24 at 09.07.56STUDENTS looking to stock up on start-of-term essentials can bag bargains at one of the biggest shopping nights of the year.

Thousands are expected to head to intu Metrocentre, Gateshead, on Wednesday 30 September, for its annual Student Night of discounts, competitions and live music.

More than 80 shops – from niche independents to high street giants – are slashing prices by up to 50 per cent on everything from clothing to home ware – for those heading for university or college.

And, along with discounts and offers, from stores such as Dorothy Perkins, Waterstones and River Island, visitors to the Student Save-Zone, between 3pm and 9pm can enjoy live music from DJs in the centre’s malls, competitions and a giant inflatable bowling alley.

Each student will also be given an intu Metrocentre university essentials checklist to ensure they are fully prepared for living away from home.

The list not only outlines obvious items such as bedlinen and crockery but also electrical equipment, laundry items and fun extras such as pot noodle, Instagram filters and free wi-fi which is available in the centre.

The event is free to attend and those who register in advance could win an exclusive VIP ticket to attend gigs at Newcastle’s O2 Academy for a year for you and a friends and a £100 intu Metrocentre Gift Card.

“This is a brilliant opportunity for groups of friends sharing halls to get everything they need in one fell swoop – and for a fraction of the cost,” said intu Metrocentre marketing manager Helen Atkinson.

“There are not only great discounts from all our top stores, but the atmosphere will be amazing.”

Updates on exclusive offers can be accessed via intu Metrocentre’s website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts and students can register for the event at  www.intumetrocentre.co.uk before 30 September or on the night.
