North east students celebrated the start of the academic year at intu Eldon Square.

The money saving deals at the shopping centre’s student night on 4 October had over 70 exclusive offers available including fantastic discounts at Topshop and tempting tasty deals at Pizza Express.

With popular fashion retailers such as River Island doubling their standard student discount to 20% for this event – fashionistas really were spoilt for choice!

Students enjoyed free live entertainment and giveaways, including treats from Wagamama and Nando’s, and 500 lucky students chosen at random received a free goody bag. For a fun insight into student life, Capital North East set up a confessions booth – where students were asked to spill the beans on their craziest moments so far!

Capital North East also put together the ultimate student survival package that was up for grabs – including an intu Gift Card, restaurant and cinema vouchers and free Krispy Kreme doughnuts – a prize guaranteed to start the academic year in style.

The event is  run exclusively for local students every year. They are among a number of student nights being held at intu shopping centres up and down the country which last year attracted more than 120,000 students in total.

Megan Davey, Northumbria University Student from Blyth, said:

“I didn’t expect the event to be quite so busy and I have to say the atmosphere is great! I am heading to Topshop and River Island as they are two of my favourite stores and had great discounts!”

Karen Carr, regional marketing manager, intu north, commented:

“Shoppers at intu Eldon Square for this year’s student night were treated to some brilliant entertainment, and certainly made the most of  the fantastic discounts and deals on offer.

“Thanks to intu’s national scale, we’ve been able to team up with some of the country’s best known brands and great live acts to give the north east’s student population a night to remember.”

Ian Elder, Ladies Product Manager at River Island, intu Eldon Square added:

“There’s always an exciting vibe when the students return to the region. We love the student nights and really enjoy being on hand to give advice on the latest styles to help students revamp their autumn winter wardrobe for less!”

Jayne Punshon, Manager of Next , said:

“This was the first year we really got involved in the student event. We offered 10% off and it has been really well received. We were delighted to welcome new and returning students to the city into the store with a discount ahead of their new year at university. We really hope to take part next year, too.”
