Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Students launch CompareMyTravel in the Travel Industry

trainsTwo students from Northumbria University and Newcastle University both studying Business have joined forces to produce an App in the Travel Industry.

Emma Louise Fielding, 21, from Northumbria University entered her App idea into a competition by Software City in Sunderland back in December.

In January she was informed that she had got through to the next stage of the competition that was the public voting for her App idea to be produced. Emma said: “When I was entering my App idea into the competition I didn’t think for a second it would get through to the next stage nor to win the competition with two other App ideas.”

After the initial shock of winning with the £5,000 investment to develop the App Emma brought Sam John Pearce, 21, a Business Management student at Newcastle University to be involved in the project.

The idea ‘CompareMyTravel’ is a transport comparison Website and App that compares Coaches, Car Time, Flights and Trains to any destination within the UK. The App is the first of its kind to be launched here in the North East of England and in the UK.

CompareMyTravel aims to reduce the time spent when searching for methods of travel by comparing all companies that operate transport in the UK and shortlisting journeys on the quickest and cheapest method of travel.

Since winning the competition, Emma’s App idea CompareMyTravel is being produced by local App developers iResources in Newcastle.flight

Emma said: “The experience of working with very talented app developers have been a learning curve, from knowing very little about Apps to launching your own there is a lot of information to take in”

“The idea came about when me and a friend were stuck in Kings Cross station late at night after a trip to Rome where we missed our train. We needed to get back to Newcastle the following day for university. After phoning various train operators we had no luck. Eventually we managed to get a train up to Leeds. Then my Dad drove from Leeds to Newcastle at 4am so I could attend lectures in the morning. On the way to Leeds I started to come up with the idea of CompareMyTravel, a platform that compares all modes of transport to your desired destination”

“It has been a crazy few weeks. We are now getting ready for the download race that starts on the 9Th May where CompareMyTravel App will go up against the other two app ideas in a bid to get the most votes in a 2 week period.”

ConmpareMyTravel will be available to download from the 9th May for free on the App store for iOS devices and on Google Play for Android devices.
