STUDENTS and staff are limbering up to raise thousands of pounds for charity.

One hundred and twenty one girls and 25 staff from Richmond School and Sixth Form College will take part in the Race for Life.

They hope to break their previous fundraising record of £9,250 when they turn up at South Park, on June 4 for the Cancer Research UK event.

Several coaches will take staff and students from Years 7-11 from school to the Darlington venue for the 5km race.

PE teacher Helen Southgate, who organises Team Richmond School, said: “I am so pleased that our girls see the bigger picture, that this is not just a sporting event, that it’s for those people whose lives are touched in some way by cancer.

“It is amazing that so many want to take part and that our sponsorship, which should approach the £10,000 mark, will be going to such a worthwhile cause.”
