Sunderland Business Improvement District has been awarded the prestigious Investors In People status, gaining their accreditation after impressing the independent assessor.

The organisation, which was set up in 2014 to develop opportunities and events to help the city centre to thrive, has been working towards the IIP standard, which is the UK’s leading accreditation for business improvement through people management.

IIP praised Sunderland BID, saying it had “made great progress in developing people management policies.”

The assessor added that, “the team operate in a professional and dynamic manner and there is an excellent culture of support.”

Investors In People look for evidence of a learning and developing strategy for members of the team along with a leadership and management strategy.

The team approach to reaching targets was also singled out for praise, with the assessor saying that “consultation between management and employment is very effective.”

“Everyone is passionate about the success of Sunderland Business Improvement District and is committed to giving clients and stakeholders the best possible service,” said the report.

“Employees are prepared to go the extra mile to make the company successful and achieve its objectives.”

Ken Dunbar, Chief Executive of Sunderland BID, said he was delighted that the team had achieved IIP accreditation.

“I know that everyone who works at the BID is extremely passionate and extremely dedicated to their jobs, but it is very gratifying to have it officially recognised by such a prestigious body,” he said.

“The success of our work is reliant on the skill of our team and I’m delighted that IIP have recognised the strong culture of empowerment, continuous improvement and consultation that exists.”
