Sunniside set to Gin and Bear It

CaptureGIN LOVERS in Sunderland will soon be able to enjoy their favourite tipple at the city’s newest bar.

Gin & Bear It, which stocks more than 40 different gins, will open its doors at High Street West, Sunniside on Friday November 27.

The new venture is the brainchild of Sean Maddison and Helen Davies, who also own Bar Justice in Sunderland and organised the city’s first ever Sunniside Live festival this summer.

“We were keen to build on the interest and buzz surrounding Sunniside since the festival,” said Sean.

“Getting the bar ready has been a lot of hard work because we had to fully install a new cellar and completely revamp the interior, but we think it’s worth it.

“We’ve spent a considerable amount of time sourcing a great range of gins, tonic and botanicals that will make up our new menu and we can’t wait until opening night.”

Along with its extensive gin menu, Gin and Bear It will also sell a range of cocktails, craft beers, ales and wines.

The site, formerly 200 High Street, has been given a complete makeover and designed to offer a more relaxed atmosphere, in keeping with the area’s growing nightlife scene.

“It’s always great to see new bars and restaurants opening in the city centre because it helps to attract new people to the area,” said Ken Dunbar, Chief Executive of Sunderland’s Business Improvement District.

“Sunniside is such a beautiful part of Sunderland and it’s businesses like Gin and Bear It which really help us to show that off.”

Gin and Bear It will open from 4pm until 4am on Fridays and from 12pm until 4am on Saturdays, startingNovember 27.
