Support and advice for the homeless

People who find themselves homeless or at are risk of losing their home over the Christmas and New Year period are being reminded that help and support is available.

Durham County Council’s housing solutions service provides advice to anyone who is homeless or sleeping rough as well as those who are having difficulty paying their mortgage or rent, living in unsuitable accommodation, at risk of abuse or harm or struggling to keep warm or pay their bills.

Anyone in need of help can call 03000 268 000 during office hours or email housingsolutions@durham.gov.uk Normal office hours are 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Thursday, and from 8.30am to 4.30pm Friday.

Council offices will be closed from 4.30pm on Friday, 22 December and will reopen at 8.30am on Tuesday, 2 January 2018.

However, help is available out of hours by calling 01388 722 538.

The council is also encouraging members of the public to report rough sleepers via national organisation StreetLink by calling 0300 500 0914 or visiting www.streetlink.org.uk
