North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

27.7 (1)Gardening, line dancing, singing, classic board games and bingo were enjoyed by all.

The volunteers, all aged 15 to 17 years old, were split into 6 groups of 15 and spent a day each at Queens Meadow Care Home, on Stockton Road.

Since the visits, two of the groups have chosen the home for their Social Action Project, part of their commitment to the NCS.

They have been fundraising to buy items for the residents’ pamper room and garden through a cake sale at Hartlepool FC’s first home game of the season.

Further donations can be made at Queens Meadow Care Home’s summer fete, which takes place between 1pm and 4pm on Saturday, August 13th. All welcome.

Liz Jones, Customer Relationships Officer at Hill Care, which operates Queens Meadow Care Home, said: “It is always a pleasure to see the young and elderly interacting and enjoying their time together.

“The National Citizenship Service is a great scheme. It gets teenagers away from their smartphones and computers for a few hours and doing something that immeasurably improves the lives of our elderly residents.

“They might only be at the home a couple of hours a day, but it gives the residents a lift for weeks. Everyone thoroughly enjoys the visits and we always look forward to the next time.”

Hill Care works closely with several NCS groups across Teesside, with activities in care homes in Stockton-on- Tees and Middlesbrough.
