Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Screen Shot 2015-12-21 at 09.36.27A COMMUNITY’S senior citizens were given a festive treat to remember as students displayed their musical and acting talents at an annual Christmas party.

More than 120 residents from around six homes and some grandparents of students were invited to celebrate Christmas by staff and students at The King’s Academy, Coulby Newham.

Entertainment was complemented by a delicious Christmas feast as Year 10 and 11 students served tea and chatted with guests.

Hosted by drama teacher Eddie Jones, the event featured carols, two excerpts of the academy’s musical Annie, a drama by Rebecca McClelland and Kirsty Gosnay, a performance by the KS4 Dance Club and piano recitals by Olvya Sylvari, Azeen Akhtar and Louis Blom.

Special guests this year came in the form of the North East Barbershop Harmony Choir, Northern Accord.

Head of food technology at the academy Barbara Wilberforce said: “It is such a lovely event with a fantastic atmosphere. It also fits one of the catering modules as the students help prepare the food.”

Guests Pat and Ernest Grier arrived at the event with their friend Jean Tynan. “We absolutely love it,” said Pat. “We really look forward to coming to the school, where our grandchildren are students. They all do such a great job.”
