Alun Cochrane“Did you hear the one about the Northumberland theatre who gave one lucky winner the chance of telling their favourite joke as part of a massive night of big-time comedy?”

Well, The Phoenix Theatre, Blyth is hosting a competition where a budding joke teller will be added to the line-up on Sunday, February 15th when ALUN COCHRANE (Mock the Week / The Frank Skinner Radio Show) brings his “Me Neither” show to Northumberland…the same show that enjoyed a sell-out run at The Edinburgh Festival.

All people have to do is upload their favourite joke to our The Phoenix Theatre, Blyth Face Book page or Tweet us via @Phoenixblyth using the hashtag #phoenixjoketeller

You can just tell us or even better why not show us, why you deserve to be our joke telling winning. We’d love to see your videos showing your gag-telling abilities!

This competition comes at a great time as The Phoenix Theatre, Blyth is celebrating its 50th anniversary year and the Theatre plans to deliver a host of top events to mark the occasion.

The Phoenix Theatre, Blyth is supported by Northumberland County Council.

The Phoenix Theatre, Blyth is dabbling more into staging leading comedy showcases featuring some great comedy talent from the national touring circuit and also the regional comedy scene. This is evident with the forthcoming acts visiting the Theatre in 2015 – Alun Cochrane (15 February), Bobby Pattinson – The King of north East Comedy (7 March) and the legendary Roy “Chubby” Brown (19 December).

Richie Ross, Theatre Manager, said: “At The Phoenix Theatre, Blyth we are always trying to develop new audiences and come up with fun ways of bringing people to the venue.

“The joke telling competition is a perfect example of how we are giving people unique opportunities and what better way than to open the stage to someone to tell their favourite ever gag; all part of Alun Cochrane’s visit to Blyth.

“We are really looking forward to seeing people’s submissions through our social media channels. Good luck!”

People can buy tickets for Alun Cochrane’s “Me Neither” show on Sunday February 15th by calling The Phoenix Theatre, Blyth box office on 01670 367 228, by visiting online at www.thephoenixtheatre.org.uk or why not drop-in in person – the box office is open Monday to Friday, 10am to 12.30pm and on Saturday from 10am until 2pm.

If you’ve ever fancied yourself as a bit of a comic then now’s your chance…send us your best gags by Face Book and Twitter (try and keep them clean if you can!)
