The Greatest FIFA World Cup Matches in History

ByDave Stopher

Jun 28, 2018

The World Cup 2018 will kick off in a few days and we fans cannot get enough of the excitement.  While every World Cup has had its own flavor and we are sure you would love to watch each and every match, here is the thing – some football matches create a more lasting memory than others. Which ones are your favourite?

Today, we are going to talk about some of the greatest world cup matches in history.

  1. Brazil beat England 1-0 in 1970

Though defending champions England were the underdogs, they pulled up quite a show. Brazil had talents like Jairzinho, Pele, Carlos Alberto and others so they were the favorite. But Gordon Banks seemed to steal the show by stopping a sure goal by Pele-did you know that? It’s like you learn much more about Grand National Betting!

Bobby Moore also denied Brazil another goal tactfully snatching the ball from Jairzinho when he penetrated the defense of the English team.

  1. West Germany and France 3-3 Draw in 1982

The game saw many goals being scored but the match did not excite the audience until half an hour left into the play. Patrick Battison almost was on the verge of getting France the cup, but German goalkeeper Harald Schumacher made a deliberate attack and put a cap on that hope.

The attack was really brutal though Schumacher was not fouled. Battison cracked his ribs and damaged his vertebrae staying unconscious for almost half an hour. France scored the last goals in extra time but Germany went on to the finals saving two penalties.

  1. Italy beat West Germany 4-3 in 1970

We again travel back to the 70s! The game of all times saw the two teams clashing in front of more than 100,000 fans. 5 of the 7 goals were scored in the extra time and during the 120th minute Italy made its score to reach the finals.

We should also mention Franz Beckenbauer who had to play through the match with a dislocated shoulder because all the substitutes have been used.

  1. Germany beat Brazil 7-1 in 2014

This is one of the most spectacular shows in the history of World Cup. Brazil was hopeful as it was their home ground, but that didn’t translate into their playing.

Germany took by storm and scored a series of 5 goals within just 30 minutes into the game. You can blame the Brazil defense, but even Neymar couldn’t hold up to his name. Brazil scored their goal late into the game but that didn’t change the outcome of the match.

Are you going to watch all the football matches in the World Cup this year? With new teams and new venues, it is surely going to have some great sporting action. The World Cup 2018 is really going to be exciting and we can expect some spectacular matches in Russia! Which have been your favorite World Cup games till now? Let us know in the comments below!
