The Kick Inside pay homage to Kate Bush at historic Manor House

The Kick Inside (TKI), an acoustic celebration of The Songs of Kate Bush, has been confirmed as the next artiste set to draw in audiences to an historic County Durham music venue.  The critically acclaimed art-pop duo, otherwise known as Raf Mantelli and O Richard Smith, or ‘Raf and O’, will pay tribute to Kate’s early career and core essence as a pianist singer songwriter when they perform at the Grade II listed Manor House on Friday 22 September.

Named after Bush’s debut studio album The Kick Inside have marked out a unique and widely acclaimed song and sound world over the last decade, receiving critical acclaim from outlets including The Quietus, FACT and Electronic Sound.  Their performance in the 18th century building’s Old Court Room will see pianist and vocalist Raf stunningly capture the intimacy and ferocity that Bush conveys musically, vocally and visually, skilfully accompanied by O Richard on double bass. Together they will transport audiences into the beautiful close-up world of Kate Bush’s early songs.

The Kick Inside have previously played venues such as The Queen Elizabeth Hall and The Union Chapel, composed music for theatre and have been praised by Mike Garson, David Bowie’s pianist and long-term collaborator, for their unique interpretation of Bowie’s Lady Grinning Soul.

The gig marks the start of an exciting autumn/ winter events programme for the Manor House which continues to build its reputation as a prestigious location for intimate music performances.  After the Kick Inside, next to perform in the Old Court Room on Saturday 27 October will be returning artist Keith James who will this time be performing The Music of Yusuf (Cat Stevens).
