Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Screen Shot 2015-08-25 at 10.02.25ONE of the most famous rockets in television history is set to land in the North East this week – as a FAB surprise for the region’s shoppers.

International Rescue’s fast action-response vehicle Thunderbird 1 is to touch down at intu Metrocentre, Gateshead on Thursday (27 August) – and the shopping centre’s Head of Fun will be there to greet its arrival.

The four foot high model of the rocket, which, as fans of the cult 1960s TV puppet series know, was piloted by Scott Tracy, will be on display at the centre’s Platinum Mall.

The show has attracted a new generation of fans after being revived earlier this year on ITV as Thunderbirds Are Go.

And, among those keen to see the famous rocket at close quarters will be eight-year-old Mackenzie Toal, from Prudhoe and his Deputy Head of Fun, seven-year-old Myah Rose Wilson, from Sunderland.

The pair were given their specially created titles earlier this year and are tasked with making a trip to the Gateshead shopping centre even more appealing for young visitors.

Mackenzie said: “I’m mega excited to see Thunderbird 1. I think the show’s great and it’ll be amazing to see the rocket close up.”
