NORTH East crime author Mari Hannah is giving a talk in Middlesbrough next month.

The award-winning writer will be at the Central Library on Thursday, November 3 during the BBC’s Love to Read campaign.

Mari visited Acklam Library in May as part of Harrogate Crime Writing Festival’s Big Read project where she talked about PD James’ novel An Unsuitable Job for a Woman.

The audience loved listening to her, so fans will be delighted to welcome her back to talk about her own books – a crime series set in Newcastle featuring DCI Kate Daniels.

Mari was born in London and moved north as a child. Sponsored by the Home Office, she graduated from Teesside University before becoming a probation officer, a career cut short when she was injured while on duty. Thereafter, she spent several years working as a film/television scriptwriter.

During that time she created and developed a number of projects, most notably a feature length film and the pilot episode of a crime series for television based on the characters in her book, the latter as part of a BBC drama development scheme.

She lives in Northumberland with her partner, an ex-murder detective. In 2010, she won the Northern Writers’ Time to Write Award and it 2014 she was shortlisted for the CWA Dagger in the Library which honours an author’s whole body of work.

An Afternoon with Mari Hannah takes place at Middlesbrough Central Library on Thursday, November 3 from 2pm.

Tickets are £2 – call 01642 729002 for further information.
