Screen Shot 2016-04-18 at 16.47.26Teesside University’s Campus Heart is set to be on view to a global audience when the Tour de Yorkshire passes through Middlesbrough.

The Tour de Yorkshire, which takes place from Friday 29 April to Sunday 1 May, will pass through Middlesbrough on the third and final stage of the event.

Starting at Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art on Sunday 1 May, the final stage of the event route will take cyclists through the Campus Heart, passing the University’s new £20m teaching and learning building The Curve and giant screen on the Living Wall.

Blue and yellow symbolic bikes can already be seen along the Tour de Yorkshire route which ends in Scarborough, with millions of people expected to watch the event either live during the event or on television around the world.

The University has invested £260m in its campus in recent years, including the brand new £2.75m health and fitness centre The Gym and a £6m upgrade to science and engineering facilities in both The Orion and Stephenson buildings.

Michael Lavery, Teesside University Executive Director (External Relations), said: “This is a fantastic international event which our students, staff and community can become involved in by watching the riders as they pass through Campus Heart and then by staying on to enjoy food as the cyclists continue their journey to Scarborough.

“We are expecting a festival atmosphere along the whole route, especially at Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art where the final stage begins and also in the University’s Campus Heart as the cyclists continue along their route. It will showcase the town and the University brand to an international audience.”
