Training and Advice session to help people facing redundancy

An early evening training and advice session has been organised through the SSI Task Force to help people who are facing redundancy or who have recently been made redundant.

It will take place on Wednesday 25th January from 5pm to 8pm at the Redcar and Cleveland Leisure & Community Heart, Ridley Street, Redcar.

The event has been organised in response to a survey of former SSI workers who said they would welcome more tailored training and advice. Although it has been organised through the Task Force, it is open to everyone.

The session will include advice on training and starting your own business. There will also be advice on pensions, tax and benefits as well as mental health support.

Chair of the SSI Task Force, Amanda Skelton said: “Some people told us in the survey that they had taken a job to pay the bills, but it wasn’t necessarily a long-term career choice.

“This session will provide advice on tailored training packages so that we can help people move on from the job they are in to the job they really want.

“We know there are huge aspirations in the area and the Task Force funding has helped almost 250 new businesses start up.

“But we are also aware that there are other people in the borough who have been recently made redundant or who are facing redundancy and they may need help and advice.

“It’s important to get the message out that these events are open to everyone.”
