Tribute to former Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees – Ken Craggs

logo-landscapeTHE death of former Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees Councillor Kenneth (Ken) Craggs was announced on 21 February.

Ken Craggs, 92, husband of the late former Stockton-on-Tees Borough Councillor Eileen Craggs MBE was a member of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council from 1973 to 1995. During this time he represented the Mandale Ward and was Chairman of the Housing Committee. He was Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees in 1986/7.

From 2003 he returned to the Council and represented the Stainsby Hill Ward until to 2007.  In 2000 he was made an Honorary Alderman for his service to Local Government.

Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees, Councillor Ian Dalgarno, said: “Ken was well known and loved by people in Thornaby.  He worked tirelessly to improve the lives of the people he represented and he will be missed by all who knew him.”

Mr Craggs’ funeral service will be held on Wednesday 9 March at 2pm at St Mark’s Church, Trenchard Avenue, Thornaby followed by internment at Thornaby Cemetery.  Friends and colleagues are asked to meet at the Church. The family have asked that any donations go to Butterwick Hospice in memory of Mr and Mrs Craggs.
